I exist again!
Somehow, I lost track of LJ a while back (maybe November?) Some time around January, I tried to sign back in, but couldn't remember the password Frustrated, I repeatedly tried 4 or 5 variations of what I thought it might have been, only to get locked out and unable to try again for 24 hours, which of course resulted in around a week before I tried again.
Then, suddenly, I remember.
So, what all have I missed from your lives in the past 4ish months?

| My Grandmother |
[Nov. 30th, 2008|09:02 pm] |
So, yesterday I got the phone call that I have been dreading for a couple of years. My Grandmother had been rushed to the hospital, and was doing very badly. From the emotions that my mom was barely holding in over the phone, it was obvious that she wasn't expected to pull through this time.
Laura and I drove down the 3 hours to see her in the hospital (my mom and aunt were already there, and no one else in the family is within 5 hours). And of course, when I got there, she was sitting up, making jokes, and seemed to be on the road to recovery. I was told the doctors were shocked at her rapid improvement, and she looked 10 times better than the night before.
Now even with that, she still looked weaker and in more pain than I have ever seen her before. It's not the first time this year that she was rushed to the hospital.
Thank you so much everyone who offered prayers yesterday. Now I need to go crash, as I am too drained to think anymore. |

| Pictures! |
[Sep. 14th, 2008|08:16 pm] |
So, a while back I said that it would take a few days for me to upload pictures and such for my trip to the Yellowstone area (including Bridger-Teton National Forest, Grand Teton National Park, Rockefeller National Parkway, and of course, Yellowstone National Park). Well, it's finally done.
http://s231.photobucket.com/albums/ee160/IanCheesman/Yellowstone%20and%20the%20Tetons/ http://s231.photobucket.com/albums/ee160/IanCheesman/Yellowstone%20and%20the%20Tetons/Yellowstone/
So, I could bore you a bunch about facts and itineraries, but then, most of you just wouldn't care, so I won't. So I'll just open the floor to any questions you might have from the pictures, or anything not included in the pictures, or whatever.
Take care ya'll! |

| So I'm another year older... |
[Sep. 7th, 2008|11:57 am] |
| [ | Current Mood |
| | contemplative | ] | I started this account a while back on a whim. A friend that I occasionally talked with suggested that I try it out, and that I would have more talking time with other folk. So I did. 5 months later, I made my second post. I then posted three times that week. And thus became the standard of random postings for my experience here. Over time, my life has changed. I was both in and out of relationships. I ended up with two LJ accounts, and ended up dropping the first one for this one. I moved and attempted to start over my life.
Through all of that, the problem has often been, as is always the case on sites like this, is who do I want to pretend to be. There is no way to be truly true to who I am, since who I am changes so much depending on who else I am with and what I am doing. Now wait a minute, that makes me sound like I am some kind of fake who just pretends to be different people. Not quite. I am an unusual person, with a HUGE variety of interests, and a wide range of emotions. I am also smart enough, however, to realize that not all of my friends share the same interests, and that sometimes, behaviours that are appropriate with some people are not appropriate with others (think about stuff that you would say and do with your college frat buddies opposed to what you would do and say with your grandmother). So it's interesting to look at what I wrote over the past couple of years, and how drastically they have changed. Over all I think I am fairly happy with the persona I have presented, and it is fairly accurate for the most part. Looking at profiles (both here and elsewhere) of other people that I know has been a bit of an eye opener, as it both lets me see sides of people I've never seen before, and also lets me know a bit more about how people wish they were seen by others. So now I put forth a question to you (assuming anyone actually ever reads this, of course...). How similar is your profile to how you actually see yourself? How many "little" white lies do you have on your profile to make yourself seem better? What's something you wish you could change about yourself to match one of those little white lies? What's something where you wish you didn't have to lie about, something you are happy with, but you don't think the world at large would be? |

| I am so squeeky clean! |
[Aug. 9th, 2008|11:43 am] |
So yesterday, on very little planning, Nehwen and I woke up at 3am to drive down to the Temple in Joliet for the sacred baths. For those of you who don't know what the sacred baths are, they are a series of 7 herbal (and some other things) baths that are prepared ritually and used to bath the head of the participants. The sacred baths take place as the final optional activity during the week-long Wep Ronpet festival (the ending and beginning of the sacred years)
Each bath is named after a different Ancient Egyptian God/dess, and has differnent spiritual/emotional effects. The first one, for instance, is called the Sekhmet bath, and is designed to remove all the ickiness, the impurities, and the crud - to give everyone a clean, pure state for the other 6 baths to follow. The 5th one is called the Wesir bath, and is designed to help with clarity of understanding, especially in the areas of herbal and other types of healing.
Sometimes the baths can be very emotional, with wailing, crying, laughter, singing, etc. Sometimes the baths can be very sollom, and cause a lot of introspection. Each time one goes through the baths, it will affect you differently. The final note that one should know about is that some of the gods/goddesses that each bath is named after will appear through Saq (a style of ritual possession from Ancient Egypt) to take part in the baths and add special blessings, change things around, etc. Some of Them will almost always appear, some of Them never do.
I am not going to go into much detail about what happened, but if you are interested in what happened last time I went through this ritual (3 years ago... http://padjaiemweru.livejournal.com/2005/08/15/ . I will say that my experience was very different this time, and yet just as meaningful and profound (if not moreso).
It was great fun to meet a bunch of folk that I've only met online (although it was a bit daunting to see so many faces when I arrived that I had no idea who they were : o . In fact, because I am so horrible with names, I would really appriciate it if anyone who was there (who I didn't already know really well) could remind me who you are and something along the lines of where you were sitting and/or what you were wearing, etc. |

well, I survived the yellowstone area (in other words, it didn't erupt)
It will take me some days to read through emails and such, but I will make an effort to do so. I will get a bunch of photos up on my photobucket site, but that will take some time as well.
It is good to be back in Wisconsin (yes, I know, I can't believe I said that either). |

| a little tiny friends list cut |
[Jul. 19th, 2008|08:58 pm] |
to be implemented in the next few days:
now for most of you, this won't make any difference, as almost all of my posts are open to anyone at all to read. However it does mean that I might not know what is going on in your life.
There are two reasons you might be cut. 1 - you are friends only and do not want me as a friend on your journal. 2 - you haven't used your journal in a few years, and thus are probably not reading mine.
This is not personal, as some of you I have known for years. I just doesn't make sense.
If you wish me to reverse this upcoming decision, comment here and let me know.
The list:
2_strong_ones, angelrichmond, anuat, arietisque, asetwedjbai, book_monkey, chatelaine_lady, church_hopper, , duchess_razi, duwayitheru, eaglecrash, earenwesenut, followingfeline, guenhwyvar4, hauemheru, ht_eryn, ikhet, ityetquotes, jules5404, khefetbasmut, killerspikes, lady_jay, letterstonetjer, maai, meketheru, memphis_temple, merytmut, mystiqueela, nebet_sopdet, nederlandsmir, neferemset, nefretseba, nhaje, nitimai, pennydreadful69, philkid3, raemnisut, reshreshetaset, retardedfurby, saradevah, sdf1lisa, sekhmetwadjyt, shepsutmuti, smooth7984, t_werevyrn, tamaat, teza, udenet, zedjebemyinepu
ok, so it’s not that little...but I would still have over 120 people on various LJ friend lists, so...yeah |

Kindness
Kindness is most important in a boyfriend/girlfriend. You want someone who will go through everything with you - the best moments and the worst, and all of those other moments in between. You love to be able to say anything to your partner, and have them say anything to you. You are able to be extremely close with your partner for that reason.
Take this quiz at QuizGalaxy.com</td>
twas interesting, except that I answered yes to almost every question... :D |

| [ | Current Music |
| | star wars on TV | ] | Well, I've had an interesting past couple of days.
We'll start on Thursday, when I drove down to Chicago to my mom's place. Why did I suddenly do this? Well, you see, my brother (younger brother) was receiving his Master's degree this weekend in Indiana. So instead of driving down there all by myself, and since I would have to go by Chicago anyways, it made sense to drive part way and then the two of us would travel together.
Friday we drove down to Bloomington (south of Indianapolis), and met up with my brother and my dad. We ate dinner, which was an interesting time. You see, this was the first time in, oh, many years that all four of us were in the same place at the same time. Everyone was polite, and after a bit we went to campus for the ceremony. Every one of the students had a small blurb said about them . My brother's mentioned that he was originally from Park Ridge, Illinois. That is correct, as he was born in a hospital in Park Ridge, although we livid in Mount Prospect at the time. So while I am trying to take pictures, all three of us in the audience are trying not to laugh. After the ceremony, my dad and I spent some time working on some projects we are both involved in. My mom and I stayed the night with some friends of hers that live in the area, where I got to play with some puppies, a lab and a squirrel (ok, it was a dog, but it was the size of a squirrel).
Saturday we drove back to Chicago and picked up Bob (my mom's husband) from the train station. Not much else to say about the day except for one thing. You know those in the car driving gps units (the one my mom has is in particular a Garmin)? They are really quite nice, and I had a chance to play around with it (was quite interesting as this winter I took a class in how the programs are put together that let them do their thing). Well, the one issue with them is that the maps have to be updated on a fairly regular basis (or it will try and send you across bridges that no longer exist, for example). So you paid $600 for this thingy, to update the maps should be free or at least cheap, right? No, $70 just for the basic, minimum map. If you want anything with more info on attractions, etc., can run up to $300. And they release these updates every year...
I would have driven all the way back on Saturday night except I had heard that my mom's church had a new pastor starting on Sunday. The new pastor was at one point in time my mom's Associate pastor, and I had developed a good friendship with him over the years. I hadn't seen him in somewhere around 8-10 years, so I thought it would be nice to see him again. So Sunday I went to church with my mom and Bob before heading home. On the way home I almost got pulled over by a cop for speeding. As many of you know, I tend to drive a little over the speed limit. The spot the cop was in was perfect, as I didn't see the car (and I was looking) until I was less than 50 feet away (traveling at 78 miles an hour). I dropped my speed way down as I passed him, hoping he wouldn't pull out. For a split second it looked like I was ok, then he pulled out and started following. For the next 3 miles, he sat directly in my blind spot. Finally he pulled off to wait for another car. Never turned on his lights or sirens. The entire time I was muttering and pleading for him not to pull me over (there is no way I could afford it, either financially or points). Someone was looking over me, I just wish I knew Who.
Well, now you know my interesting weekend. Now it is back to the grind for the last week of classes before finals.
Ta-ta for now, peace, and what not. |

Make a list of 15 of your favorite movies. Go to IMDB and look upquotes for these movies, and then post them in your journal withoutrevealing their source. When someone guesses the source correctly, add the film name and the username of the person who got it right.
blah, blah, blah. Some will be fairly easy, but I tied to make them somewhat difficult.
ok, hint one, no multi-part movies (thus pirates, LOTR, etc. are not in here)
1-No. Pornography's over there, second shelf on the left. - Casanova downix
2-You are here on a matter of honor. I am here to see that you settle it honorably. There will be no back-stabbing, you will not throw your blades, nor will you use weapons other than those agreed. - Rob Roy downix

Not counting English, name seven languages you'd like to be able to speak fluently.
First of all, I am going to start by saying no to all the nerd languages ("Klingon", "Elvish", etc.), it's just not needed. Second, while it would be amusing to list "cat", "goldfish", "emu", "tree"... no. and Third, those of you who put down things like "Hill-billy", "C++"... you are fired. From life. Forever.

but oh my god, is it hilarious to watch, you know, in the way that it is funny to watch a guy get kicked in the groin repeatedly...
Watch the videos (go to you tube so they load properly), and if you want, go ahead and download the game to your computer, if you really hate yourself that much!
in other news, two more days before I go back to school. Grades from last semester - A-, B+, B, and B...not bad for being out of the game for 3 years :D |

Oh my goodness, is that an Ian?
It is!!!
Yup, I am on my one day off of work over here, so I thought I would take some time to shortly scan emails and LJ and leave a note that yes, I am still alive.
The big, ugly head of apep reared on the last day of the year (Thursday for you non-kemetic folk) and broke one of my toes on my left foot. I'll be ok, it's just a bit upsetting as I have made it almost 26 years without breaking a single bone (lots of other damage, but no bones), and now it is all ended.
Other than that, things are going very well over here. I have made about 40,000 new friends (ok, actually like 6) and have gained a new Akh (well, not really new, he's been an Akh for about 50 years, but new for me).
We are currently about half way through the Jamboree, and I am not dead, so I guess things are going well.
Well, my time is close to up, so I must be going. For those of you who commented on my last post, I have now finally responded. To those Kemetic folks, Happy Wep Ronpet, and especially Happy Hawk Day!!
