City of SJ is fining me $200 because they think I adopted Val's siblings from the shelter and never licensed them. I've called multiple times, I thought it got dropped BUT it got sent to a collection agency. Posted via LiveJournal.app. |

Does LinkedIn really aid in getting jobs? Is it better to get a reference there or?
Ive got to crank up the job hunting thing, but I'm waiting on feedback for my writing samples revamp. |

Its back, I has a computer! Ok, I've had it back since Sunday but still. And Fred has kept me internetsane. I was connected even without computer. Now has one again, yay! Things a bit stretchy on screen but thats ok I guess.
Saturday arrived to David early, as planned. Went to Paneras for lunch then to the short north for the howl-o-ween dog costume contest. Hehe. Fun for me! Lots of little dogs of course but some bigger dogs. some had the basic easy costume (duchund is a hot dog one) and some more creative (dogs as pirates). My favorite one though was a red brown pit in a pumpkin costume, which won first prize in the weight catorgory. All friendly pups. We watched Fright Night and Nightmare before Christmas. Nappeded. Sunday was chilling, first with David, then at home, then with John and Cori.
Monday Cori and I decided to do nothing cept the shopping that needed to be done. We were happily lazy and watched Coraline and The Corpse Bride. Got the ok to take Stella to the pet stores. Since Xavier already has expirence. Also found out that Calypso and Rome went to their homes, they got adopted. We are now 4 - 0. Go us!!
Tuesday dog walked since Regan went to the doctors. We have a 8 week old white pit bull, a 3-4 month old gold/white pit bull (rupert), and an adult fawn boxer/pit(layla). We decided to take Rupert and Layla for a walk. I figured a puppy is always the easiest thing for an adult dog to get along with. They sniffed noses nicely a few times then Layla growled. She also has no problems growling at people or putting her mouth on them if she doesn't like want they want her to do. Found out in that walk why she was returned. Shy, nervous, insecure dog was given power over humans. That equals mouthing which probably turned into bites. Yay! I has challenge! Hehehe. Rupert was totally oblivious to anything bad and is happy go lucky. Found out that Stella has a couple applications on her. We took her and Xavier on a walk together. Apparently since I had to pick one to walk, I chose Stella. Though from now on it'll be Rupert and Stella. Xavier and Layla. Xaviers bigger than Layla. I evil. Got to David, washed up, and we went thrifting to look for a printer. Three stores, and found none to match. We did get some candle stuffs, and a couple warm things. Then all important food, whilst amusing David with tales of new pups. Got all wrapped up and no sleep til 4 or 5am. We actually woke up with time not be rushed in anything. All I did when I got home was chill, and go to the library.
Thursday woke up really early, at least the first time at 6:22am. Cat-napped until 8:45 though. Got to Regans around 9:45 and then had to stop to get gas then off to West Layfette for Regan to get her wedding dress. She actually picked one out within a couple of hours. I admit, got a bit girly and had fun helping her pick out and try on the dresses. We ate lunch there then came home. Rested a tiny bit and went to Westgate on the bike and I've talked with Julie and Liz today as well.
Friday going to Lizs, will probably watch Rock Horror Picture Show as planned. Getting to Davids a bit early on Saturday, no clue as to whats going yet yet, I'll find out when I find out. Ta! |

When I was very young, growing up in the mid-70s, I used to lie in bed at night listening to CBS Radio Mystery Theater. For the uninitiated, it's the kind of radio show that hasn't existed in a long time, dramatic scripts being enacted complete with dramatic sound effects and musical bombast. Something brought it to mind today so I exercised my Google-fu and tracked down some episodes available for download. There is a cheese factor, of course (all the overblown DUN DUN DUUUUUUN musical transitions, for example), but overall the acting and the scripts are solid and there are some genuine creeps to be had. Also a few in-joke giggles, to wit the episode I'm listening to now (Possessed By The Devil) features a villainous chap called Professor Azarak, who is presently berating an apprentice for invoking Ashtoreth. Everybody knows you don't put your Triangle of Manifestation INSIDE the protective circle with you. Duh. :D |

Updates regarding win7:
I was mistaken regarding syncing of two PDA devices - it can do that, just not in the pop-up "HEY I'M A PDA" window that initially shows when creating a relationship between devices - the actual pda thingy (using the old activesync logo) shows all devices with relationships formed, whether they're connected or not, and so forth. With options to sync one, the other, or whatever.
It's run the first game I threw at it, one from ~97 fine. No complaints, etc.
Regarding installing software, I've only found one which complained about needing to be run as administrator (in this case, solving was right click, run as admin..), but the software turned out to be pants so I promptly uninstalled it. :-)
I'll be installing an office suite later today, as I have some spreadsheets to finish. I so hope Koffice is usable in windows, as I dislike OO.org -- and it's feelings for me are mutual!
I'm beginning to really like how they've handled the 'start bar'. Icons, no text. Hover over the icon and you get a screenshot (or more if theres more than one instance of the application running), kinda like Opera tabs.
Imported all my opera settings, that's all happy and working fine with iPlayer, Youtubes, and all that. The file copy dialogue has greatly improved in windows too, (speed, how many MB copied, etc).
Checked out a new portable browser too - QTBrowser, (yes, the same QT that KDE is built on,) it's based on the webkit backend, and it looks to be moving along nicely. |

Oh, there are so many ways, but I'll keep it short.
- I find that accessing my financial accounts online is very handy, whereas I will misplace a paper statement easily and not find it until a couple days after payment was due.
- Looking up items in online dictionaries. I cannot tell you how embarassing it is to mispronounce words and come across sound like a rube, which is all too easy living in Redneckville.
- Looking up information on pet care. This has helped with four slightly neurotic cats.
- Keeping updated on local and worldwide news through online newspapers.
- Online dating, though I have to admit, that I am so busy with working and trying to get the yard cleaned up before winter, that I have neglected that area very much.
- Selling and buying stuff on eBay.
- Last, but not least, LJ and FaceBook. I don't really use FaceBook that much, unless an alert regarding Alpha Phi Omega-related items is sent to me.
Even with online information, I have found some conflicting items, so it does not eliminate the need for verifying that the information is accurate. |
